Bowing to the Divine Mother in 1008 Moods

I Bow to What Is: 1008 Meditations on the Terrible, Unsolvable Contradiction. … or Letting the One Who Has Control Have Control.

Chanting her 1008 Names

Since March 2023, Ti has been chanting the now 1008 “Names” in English five times a week, after chanting the Thousand Names of the Divine Mother Lalita in Sanskrit (called Sri Lalita Sahasranama) daily for nineteen years.

This collection and practice came out of an intense desire for complete sincerity and wanting to feel each and every prayer. A few of them are personally relevant only to Ti, but the vast majority have some possibility of being universally applicable.

At the very least, this can be seen as “Ti’s take on devotion,” or, as one woman called it, “Ti’s Devotional Hour.” Funny, but true (though it takes an hour only if it’s going very fast, and usually it’s about an hour and fifteen minutes).

Ti is now sharing it with others since people have found it helpful in “soothing, clarifying, mind- and heart-expanding and clearing” as one regular said. Another woman said after she enjoyed hearing it for the first time, “You won’t hear anyone saying all that in church!”

Another reaction: “a relief for the pained, suffering, ego-bound mind”

Student Review

“This is an opportunity to gather with a beautiful community, slow down the chattering of the discursive mind, and to open the heart and the wisdom-mind to Love, surrender, and paradox. These 1008 Names are statements (salutations, contemplations, ideas – in English!) to address the Divine Mother, but you can substitute your preferred ideal – God, the Universe, the Big Picture, the One.

Every time, this practice opens itself differently to me, and there is a different facet of both addressing the Divine inside myself and contemplating God that’s beyond/way bigger. It has allowed for my devotion to become simpler and more sincere than I used to think it “should” be. And at the same time, it has allowed me rare glimpses of a shimmering presence that holds us all in its beauty and power.”
